Still, Moon Arts Society is proud to celebrate the 20th annual Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival! This year we are marking two decades of community art, and sustainability, and paying tribute to the lost stream systems of Still Creek with the theme of Resurfacing. We surface stories, traditions, and memories from the past 19 years while emerging with new ways of thinking and doing. Join us in forging ahead into a future where humans and more-than-humans live in collective harmony.
Co-produced with Renfrew Park Community Association, the Moon Festival is a series of free public events that celebrate the full moon, harvest abundance, and diverse cultural traditions. The signature events: Harvest Fair, Lost Streams Parade, and Streamside Lantern Installation features live music, dance, shadow puppets, eco-arts, workshops, youth performances, community veggie competitions, and more! For the special 20th Moon Festival we introduce two new immersive, interdisciplinary performances: Consciousness of Streams and Treesong.
The Harvest Fair marks the beginning of the Moon Festival. Attendees enjoy diverse music by local artists, attend eco-arts workshops, play games, interact with community booths and enjoy a bowl of Harvest Soup. It also features the popular Harvest Fair vegetable competition, celebrating the neighborhood’s best homegrown produce.
Harvest Workshops: Participate in an eco-arts workshop. You can learn more Here
Vegetable Competition: It’s not always about the biggest – how about the weirdest, most adorable, silly-looking, sassy, or tall vegetable? If you have a vegetable garden, think of what special vegetable you’d like to enter in this year’s Vegetable Competition!
Community Booths: Chat with local nonprofits and businesses! You can expect: Artists Helping Artists, Vancouver Fruit Tree Project, Red Fox, Collingwood Neighborhood House Food Security, United Warriors, and more!
Food and Drink: Enjoy a bowl of Harvest Soup made by your local neighborhood house. Tea, coffee, and soft drinks will be available and food trucks may be on site!
Future Visioning: Check our Still Moon’s Youth Committee’s feature project, visioning Still Creek in 20 years.
Lost Streams Parade
At twilight, a lantern-lit parade led by Indigenous performance group, Coastal Wolfpack, leads stilt performers, giant puppets, and attendees along the path of Lost Streams to Collingwood Park. At Collingwood Park, we will gather and hear from Coast Wolf Pack, enjoy a cup of hot chocolate and see the culmination of this year’s 20th Anniversary Feature, Consciousness of Streams.
